Ross House presents THE BIG PICTURE - films for environmental and social justice on the first Tuesday of the month.

Entry is by donation, the proceeds of which go towards environmental action. Sometimes this means that it goes to the group hosting the event, or it goes to greening Ross House.

Mulled wine and popcorn are always available (also by donation), and usually we have a group chat about the issue being watched. Its a lot of freaking fun. You can keep up to date via facebook or signing up to the Ross House e-bulletin (look down to the left there).

With My Own Two Wheels investigates the bicycle as a tool for development. A simple bicycle can mean transportation, employment, even access to education and healthcare. With My Own Two Wheels weaves together the experiences of five individuals into a single story about how the bicycle can change the world, one pedal stroke at a time.

Previous screenings:

	February 2012 - The End of the Line is first major feature documentary film revealing the impact of overfishing on our oceans; we see firsthand the effects of our global love affair with fish as food. The film examines the imminent extinction of blue-fin tuna, brought on by increasing western demand for sushi; the impact on marine life resulting in huge overpopulation of jellyfish; and the profound implications of a future world with no fish that would bring certain mass starvation. From the Straits of Gibraltar to the coasts of Senegal and Alaska to the Tokyo fish market – featuring top scientists, indigenous fishermen and fisheries enforcement officials. Scientists predict that if we continue fishing as we are now, we will see the end of most seafood by 2048.
	December 2011 - The Yes Men Fix the World is a screwball true story about two gonzo political activists who, posing as top executives of giant corporations, lie their way into big business conferences and pull off the world's most outrageous pranks. From New Orleans to India to New York City, armed with little more than cheap thrift-store suits, the Yes Men squeeze raucous comedy out of all the ways that corporate greed is destroying the planet.
	November 2011 - The industrial powerhouse of a lost American era has died, and the skeleton left behind is present-day Detroit. But now, against all odds in the empty lots, in the old factory yards, and in-between the sad, sagging blocks of company housing, seeds of change are taking root. A small group of dedicated citizens, allied with environmental and academic groups, have started an urban environmental movement with the potential to transform not just a city after its collapse, but also a country after the end of its industrial age.
	October 2011 - In 1923, Rudolf Steiner, a scientist, philosopher & social innovator, predicted that in 80 to 100 years honeybees would collapse. 	September 2011 - From the makers of Who Killed the Electric Car, Tapped is a film that examines the role of the bottled water industry and its effects on our health, climate change, pollution, and our reliance on oil.
	May 2010 - A guilty New York liberal decides to practice what he preaches for one year, turns of the electricity, stops making garbage, gives up tv, taxis and take out and becomes a walking bicycling composting tree hugging polar bear saving local food eating citizen, all the while taking his baby daughter and caffeine-loving retail-obsessed television-addicted wife along with him.
	April 2010 - Going beyond the occasional news clip from Burma, the acclaimed filmmaker, Anders Østergaard, brings us close to the video journalists who deliver the footage. Though risking torture and life in jail, courageous young citizens of Burma live the essence of journalism as they insist on keeping up the flow of news from their closed country. Armed with small handycams the Burma VJs stop at nothing to make their reportages from the streets of Rangoon. Their material is smuggled out of the country and broadcast back into Burma via satellite and offered as free usage for international media.
	November 2009 - The Age of Stupid stars Oscar-nominated Pete Postlethwaite (In The Name of the Father, The Usual Suspects, Brassed Off) as a man living in the devastated future world of 2055, looking back at old footage from our time and asking: why didn't we stop climate change when we had the chance? Launched at a Guinness World Recording-winning solar-powered premiere in London's Leicester Square, the film was released in cinemas worldwide, topped the UK box office (by screen average), became one of the most talked-about films of 2009 and garnered sensational reviews.
	October 2009 - In 2004 Sean Willmore travelled the world, across six continents and nineteen countries, interviewing and filming the lives and stories of park rangers, recounting their experiences and extreme difficulties.
	September 2009 - An independent documentary about the interconnections of the nuclear fuel cycle, from outback Australia to the nuclear plants of Germany.
