Plasticized
Plasticized
Plasticized follows the 5 Gyres Institute as they embark on the first scientific expedition to explore plastic pollution across the South Atlantic Ocean.

This remarkable film is an eye-opening look at one of the Institute's global missions - studying the effects and scale of plastic pollution around the world.

The film reveals the insidious reach of single-use plastics in an already fragile oceanic ecosystem, whilst confronting the price of convenience in the uncertain future of our environment. A Q&A session with filmmaker and Melbourne-based editor Michael J. Lutman will follow the screening.

Plasticized screens with Waste Earth, a five minute animation on consumerism by Cassia Itamoto.

The Big Picture screening HOME

THE BIG PICTURE on Tuesday 1st May at 6pm is screening HOME.

Connect with us on Facebook.

At Ross House - 247 Flinders Lane, Melbourne.

Entry is by donation, and there will be popcorn and mulled wine available.

In the past 200,000 years, humans have upset the balance of planet Earth, a balance established by nearly four billion years of evolution. We must act now. It is too late to be a pessimist. The price is too high. Humanity has little time to reverse the trend and change its patterns of consumption.

Through visually stunning footage from over fifty countries, all shot from an aerial perspective, Yann Arthus–Bertrand shows us a view most of us have never seen. He shares with us his sense of awe about our planet and his concern for its health. With this film, Arthus-Bertrand hopes to provide a stepping-stone to further the call to action to take care of our HOME.

HOME is the first film that has been made using aerial-only footage. The film marks artist-activist Yann Arthus-Bertrand’s feature film directorial debut.

HOME the movie is carbon offset. All of the CO2 emissions engendered by the making of the film are calculated and offset by sums of money that are used to provide clean energy to those who do not have any. For the last ten years, all the work of Yann Arthus-Bertrand has been carbon offset.

WHERE HAVE ALL THE FISH GONE? The first major feature documentary film revealing the impact of overfishing on our oceans; we see firsthand the effects of our global love affair with fish as food.

The film examines the imminent extinction of blue-fin tuna, brought on by increasing western demand for sushi; the impact on marine life resulting in huge overpopulation of jellyfish; and the profound implications of a future world with no fish that would bring certain mass starvation. From the Straits of Gibraltar to the coasts of Senegal and Alaska to the Tokyo fish market – featuring top scientists, indigenous fishermen and fisheries enforcement officials, The End of the Line is a wake-up call to the world.

Scientists predict that if we continue fishing as we are now, we will see the end of most seafood by 2048. The End of the Line points to solutions that are simple and doable, but political will and activism are crucial to solve this international.
